Undergraduate Research and Internship Opportunities

The Summer Internship in Neural Engineering (SINE) provides undergraduate students with an intense experience in cutting edge research in neural engineering. The goal of the program is to identify, train, and nurture the development of future investigators who plan on using engineering applications to study neurologic disorders. We believe that early exposure to interdisciplinary research will provide tomorrow’s scientists with the skills they need to help end the devastation of neurologic injury.

Students in the program join research teams located within the Sensory Motor Performance Program (SMPP) at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) and in the Departments of Biomedical Engineering (BME) and Physiology at Northwestern University (NU).

These summer internships provide undergraduates an opportunity to conduct research in a "graduate school" setting in the following fields: 1) biological sciences, 2) computer and information sciences, 3) engineering, 4) geosciences, and 5) mathematical and physical sciences. Applications are due February 15, 2006. For more information see www.nsfstc.org

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience. IASTE is an exchange program with foreign countries. For each internship opportunity that NU finds in the US and that a foreign student accepts, one NU student can go abroad for an internship. If you are interested, please look at the website http://www.iaesteunitedstates.org and then alert Professor Linsenmeier to your interest and we'll see what we can work out.

Naval Research Enterprise Program

This ten-week intern program is designed to provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in research, under the guidance of an appropriate research mentor, at a participating Navy laboratory.

The last day to submit an application will be January 14, 2008.  References and transcripts are due on January 14, 2008 by 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST).

This opportunity is open to 2nd and 3rd year students, and both international students and US citizens. Application deadline is March 19. Click here for details.

The Medical Informatics (MedIX) program’s main objectives are to encourage talented undergraduates to pursue graduate education and to expose students to interdisciplinary research, especially at the border of information technology and medicine.
